2017 is shaping up to be an action-packed year for events in Rotorua. We have identified some key events coming up that should be on everyone’s calendar. 10th – 19th Feb: 2017 Bike Festival
The 5th anniversary Rotorua Bike Festival will be another celebration of all things biking. Enjoy 10 days of bike events, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. More Information can be found here.
11th Feb: Tarawera Ultramarathon
The Tarawera Ultramarathon is one of the most prestigious Ultramarathons and is part of the 12-race ultra-trail world tour. The stunning course takes participants past four lakes, through many forests, waterfalls and some of the most stunning scenery in the world. This is an exceptional event, with high calibre athletes taking part and well worth checking out.
March 25th – April 7th: Crankworx Rotorua
Crankworx Rotorua brings together the world’s best downhill, slopestyle and enduro mountain bikers to highlight mountain biking at its best. Super fans, rising stars, industry innovators and the next generation of mountain bike riders come together for competitions, concerts, and the mountain bike culture that Rotorua has in abundance.
6th May: Rotorua Marathon
The Lions Foundation Rotorua Marathon is an annual event with full 42.2km marathon, 21.1km half marathon, 10.55km quarter marathon and 5.5km running/walking events. This will be the 53rd anniversary of the iconic marathon around the picturesque Lake Rotorua.
June 17th: Lions Tour – Rotorua
The fascinating geothermal landscape of Rotorua provides a fitting backdrop for the Maori All Blacks vs The British & Irish Lions in 2017. Experience the electric atmosphere when thousands of passionate British & Irish Lions fans descend on Rotorua to cheer on their team.
18th-19th Nov: Singlespeed World Championships
One of the most entertaining and colourful events on the international mountain bike calendar is returning to Rotorua. The Singlespeed World Championships will be part of the Ride Rotorua Spring Carnival. The championships are eccentric, with extravagant costumes, tattoos for fastest man and woman, and on-course beverages. A charity is selected and all proceeds raised throughout the championship are given to a deserving charity.
